DETROIT - A former Michigan neonatal nurse has been charged with multiple counts of child abuse after a premature infant in her care suffered extensive physical injuries, according to law enforcement records and court filings.
Kieran L. Ansley, 43, faces two felony counts of second-degree child abuse and two misdemeanor counts of fourth-degree child abuse. Ansley, a biological female who was previously known as Heather Lynn Adams, had undergone a gender transition to identify as a man during the course of her nursing career leading up to the alleged incidents.
The charges stem from an investigation after hospital staff discovered injuries on a premature baby during what was intended to be the infant’s final night in the care unit before discharge. Attending medical personnel observed widespread bruising, a discolored tongue, and multiple leg fractures.

Electronic access records from the hospital show Ansley entered the infant’s room 27 times during the shift in question. Statements gathered from co-workers indicated that Ansley had exhibited signs of frustration on duty and routinely handled infants with greater force than other medical staff.
Following the discovery, Ansley was terminated from her position at the hospital, arrested, and subsequently released on bond subject to electronic location monitoring.
